Founded by A.B. Simpson in 1887, The Christian & Missionary Alliance (The Alliance) was not originally a denomination, but an inter-denominational missionary society, shared among believers from many churches who held a common passion for a deep and powerful walk with the Lord Jesus Christ, compelling them to reach people in every nation with the Good News of the Gospel.

Eventually, the C&MA did organize as a denomination, which today includes 2,000 churches in the United States and many times more overseas, with nearly 6 million believers in approximately 20,000 Alliance fellowships throughout 81 countries of the world. Currently there are more than 800 Alliance missionaries and workers serving overseas today in 50 countries.

From the beginning, Dr. Simpson and the C&MA family have treasured Christ as our Savior, Sanctifier, Healer, and Coming King.  Often called “The Four-Fold Gospel,” the centerpiece of Alliance conviction has always been Christ Jesus Himself, who saves us from our sin and death, cleanses and sets us apart for a holy life by His Spirit, heals our brokenness, sickness, and disease, and is coming again to reign.  These ministries of Christ for the world are represented in our Alliance logo, featuring the cross (Savior), the laver (Sanctifier), the pitcher (Healer), and the crown (Coming King).

To summarize: The Alliance is a Christ-centered, Acts 1:8 family.  We desire to be a group of people/churches that loves Jesus, celebrates Jesus, preaches Jesus and obeys Jesus.  Acts 1:8 teaches us that empowered by the Holy Spirit, we are sent to every segment of human society. The word “family” reminds us that we are in significant relationship with one another as we accomplish this mission.  So our theology is summarized by the simple phrase “Christ-centered,” our current calling is summarized by “Acts 1:8” and the word “family” calls us to do this together.
